Working hard has always been the standard I held myself to, but I’ve learned that having balance is just as important.
For a long time, the one thing I knew for certain was that I wanted to work. By my senior year of high school, I was working nearly 60 hours a week—holding down both a full-time and a part-time job while still finishing school. I did well academically, but school just didn’t motivate me; working did.
My dad worked in the car business for decades, sometimes putting in 100 hours a week. He made sure we had everything we needed, and we never went without. I saw firsthand what relentless dedication looked like. But I also saw what it cost. Because of how much he worked, we didn’t get to spend a lot of time together when I was growing up. That was the tradeoff.
As a father, I didn’t want to make that same sacrifice. I wanted to utilize my work ethic but find a way to be more present with my own family.
At the time, I was working as a VP at a software company serving the real estate industry. My dad had already made the switch to real estate and had been encouraging me for years to get my license and join him. I held off—until I started working closely with agents every day. I saw some of the best and some of the not-so-great agents. It got me thinking: If they could do it, I can definitely do it.
In 2016, I got my real estate license and started out part-time. It turned out to be a natural fit. My background in operations, leadership, and client service helped me hit the ground running. Real estate gave me exactly what I was looking for: the ability to build a business and help people, all without sacrificing time with the people who matter most.
It also gave me the chance to work with my dad. We partnered up and started the Duncan Team. That time working together was great. Not only did I get to show him what I could do and make him proud, but I also got to build a stronger relationship with him—something we hadn’t had much time for when I was younger. We were finally working side by side, sharing a passion. He retired in 2022, and now I run the team solo, with plans to bring my cousin on soon and keep growing the family business.
When you run your own business, there’s no off switch. But the difference now is that I control how and when I work. I can structure my days to
show up fully for my clients—and also for my family. I take my daughters, Naomi and Adeline (our identical twins) to school every morning. I’m there for dance recitals, sports practices, and school events. We also have a son, Aidan, who is now in his twenties, and I get to be there for him in a different way as he figures out life and what he wants to do.
My wife, Sandi, has been my biggest supporter throughout this entire journey. We met in 2013, and seeing her work ethic and commitment as a single mom was really inspiring. And with each dream I have, she is right there, cheering me on to keep going. We enjoy going on vacations and recently bought an RV so we can take more trips to unplug and recharge as a family. I love being outdoors camping, hunting, fishing, and hiking. I am also a woodworker.
Having balance has changed my life for the better. I still work hard because that is just who I am, but I also get to show up for the people I love. That’s what this journey has been about, and I’m grateful for the clients who trust me to guide them on their own journeys.
The number one complaint I hear from people about real estate agents is this: “I never heard from them.” Communication is the most important element of a successful transaction. I’m here for my clients whenever they need me, answering questions, explaining processes, and offering updates. Not only does this ensure you can make confident, informed decisions, but it eases stress because you know you have someone in your corner guiding you and advocating for your best interests.
I’m involved in every part of the process—from showings, offers, and negotiations to all the details in between. From scheduling and coordinating inspectors and the repair vendors to communication with the title company and lenders, I handle all the moving parts that can often feel overwhelming. I make sure you never wonder what’s next or who’s handling what, because I already am. When issues come up, I jump in and find a solution. That proactive approach reduces unnecessary road bumps and creates a seamless experience.
I’ve never lost a client to another agent. Not one. The people I helped years ago still call me when they’re ready to move again, or when their parents need to downsize, or when they need a recommendation for service providers. It is always my goal to be a lifelong real estate resource for every client I have the honor of working with.
Sincerely,

The Duncan Team
